opheliasalt started following you
HELLO! You are my 888th follower! This is, on Discworld, an extremely unlucky number, but I don’t give a Blind Io’s fart.
SO, welcome, welcome, I hope you’ll enjoy following my humble blog.
Congratulations, you’ve just earned my undying affection with this welcome.
The one thing that bothers me about the film adaption of “Going Postal”
Well, there are several things. But the one that bothers me the most is that neither Moist nor Angua has an Überwaldian accent. It’s more okay with Moist because I can believe he’s consciously gotten rid of it, but Angua’s damn surname is “von Überwald”. She’s a freaking Baroness or whatever. She should at least sound a little foreign, right? And if Moist has really fought against any identifying features, he shouldn’t have any Überwaldian characteristics at all—like he should be correcting people when they pronounce his name “lipvig”, or he should have dropped the “von” from “von Lipwig”.
Ugh, just give my fictional characters accents already.
Stuck on the novel (not badly, just a little) and so I decided to have a look at a piece of Discworld fanfic I started writing last December. Then I started working on it a bit, since I haven’t updated it on ff.net since this spring.
Then I noticed the word count: 12k, at about 2/3rds of the way through the story.
Why can’t I write normal, short fiction like everyone else???
By the way, if you’re interested, the fanfic in question is The Lecturer in Quantum Operations. It’sa Ponder StibbonsxOC deal, and is pretty far from the best fanfic I’ve ever written, but it’s my baby nonetheless. :)
Today is NADWCon’s birthday! The first convention started on September 4, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ.
I was there! It was my honeymoon, actually, because my husband and I dorks.
I am wearing a NADWCon 2011 shirt today to celebrate, because my 2009 shirt needs to be washed.
For those who don’t know: NADWCon basically runs my life (what, did you think it was Germany that was running my life? It’s not Germany, it’s NADWCon, with Germany in a disturbingly close second). My son was two months old when I talked my husband into packing up the Golf and driving to Madison, WI for the 2011 convention. I don’t know how we’re getting to Baltimore, MD for 2013, but we’ve got a hotel room and tickets, so we’ll be getting there somehow. I’ll be very, very sad if/when I have to miss a NADWCon. I think at this point I am so attached to it that even if I end up living in the UK and going to DWCon instead I will lament not being able to go to NADWCon.
…is anyone else on Tumblr as obsessive about this as I am?
